Course description:

The Level 3 provides a pathway for learners to understand assessment and if required, qualify as an assessor. Learners who wish to achieve these units could be assessing competence or non-competence based learning, knowledge or skills. They will select the units and qualifications that meet the requirements of what they are assessing. There are three different awards and a certificate available at Level 3.

Who is the course suitable for?

This qualification is intended for those who assess both occupational competence in the work environment and vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment.

To provide the essential knowledge and understanding that assessment staff need, and offer additional units that describe competent practice. This approach gives flexibility and a greater potential to meet the needs of aspiring Assessors.

Entry requirements:

There are no formal or other nationally agreed entry requirements although an initial assessment to cover the minimum core of literacy, numeracy and ICT will be part of the initial assessment. The learner must live in England and be over 19 years of age.

How is the course delivered?

Candidates work through an online platform, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. You will be guided to obtain the resources that contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and you can also gain further knowledge through research.

There is also a requirement for you to develop your practical skills and there is a requirement to undertake observed and assessed practice in a real work environment. Assessments are based on knowledge and skills.

Learners should complete the course within 6 – 9 months.

  • Examining products of work
  • Questions and answers
  • Recognising prior learning
  • Assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding
  • To assess the trainee assessor’s performance in assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace (eg workshops, classrooms or other training environments)

Progression opportunities:

Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to progress on to further training, such as courses in NCFE level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment.
