Course description:
This course will enable you to guide and assess the development of your knowledge and skills relating to moving and handling. You will also gain an understanding of how to:
Confirm competence in the area of moving and handling where appropriate.
Support a reduction in the numbers of moving and handling related injuries to both social care workers and those people receiving a service.
Who is this course suitable for?
This qualification is designed for learners who are working in a care or health and safety role. It is ideal for those who are new to the role or who already have experience manual handling.
Entry requirements:
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification although learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification. Some of the practical aspects of the course are assessed via observation and as such, you will need to be working in an administrative role in order to complete this qualification The learner must live in England and be over 19 years of age.
How is the course delivered?
Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times convenient to them, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Learners should complete the course within 12 weeks.
Course content:
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate, learners must achieve the 6 units (14 credits):
Module 1 – Understanding assisting and moving individuals
Module 2 – Provide support for mobility
Module 3 – Understanding and enabling assisting and moving individuals
Module 4 – Select and use appropriate techniques and equipment when dealing with falls
Module 5 – Select and use appropriate strategies and equipment when assisting and moving individuals
Module 6 – Moving inanimate loads
Progression:
Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to progress on to further training, such as courses in care at both Level 2 and Level 3.
