Course description:

Approximately 15% of people are affected by Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) including dyslexia, dyscalculia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Development Coordination Disorder (DCD). The course explores a range of SpLDs and their characteristics to help learners identify the differences. You will develop an understanding of the positive aspects and strengths of individuals with SpLDs in addition to exploring the effects of SpLDs and barriers individuals may face. Learners will discover how to provide support for individuals with SpLDs with a focus on the individual themselves and their own unique needs, alongside gaining an understanding of the process of formal diagnosis of SpLDs.

Who is the course suitable for?

This course is ideal for learners who work with individuals with SpLDs who would like to increase their understanding. On completion of this course, Learners will receive a nationally recognised CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties.

Entry requirements

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance-learning materials.

How is the course delivered?

Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times convenient to them, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Learners should aim to complete the course within 9 weeks.

Module B: Understand supporting individuals with Specific Learning Difficulties. Understand the context of Specific Learning Difficulties.
