Course description:
This course will provide opportunities for you to gain an overview of warehousing and storage and apply your understanding of the 6 rights associated with logistics and the different types of warehousing. You will also look at the functions and benefits of warehousing and the health and safety risks involved in these processes. Learners will also gain an understanding of the processes involved in preparing to receive and receiving goods, including the review of recording, packing and the need for stock control systems.
Who is the course suitable for?
This qualification is designed for those who are looking for, or have just started, a first job in a warehouse or storage facility.
Entry requirements:
You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance-learning materials. The learner must live in England and be over 19 years of age.
How is the course delivered?
Candidates work through an online platform or through paper based manuals, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience. Learners should complete the course within 6 weeks.
Course content:
The course will cover the following areas and consists of two modules:
- Introduction to warehousing and storage
- Introduction to the 6 rights associated with logistics
- Understand the functions and benefits of warehousing
- Understand how to receive and store goods
- The importance of preparing to receive goods in the incoming goods/offload inspection area to include PPE (personal protective equipment) appropriate for the role
- Understand how to receive and store goods
- Understand health and safety requirements when receiving and storing good
- Understand how to process orders and prepare them for dispatch
- Understand how to process orders for dispatch
- Understand how to package goods for dispatch
- Understand health and safety requirements when processing orders and dispatching goods
- Understand how to check stock and update records
- Understand how stock levels are checked and records updated
- Customer service in warehousing and storage
