This qualification will develop the knowledge and skills required when working with food in health and social care, early years and childcare settings. It covers food safety requirements, contributing to and/or promoting nutrition and hydration and supporting individuals to eat and drink.
Who is the course suitable for?
This qualification is designed for those who may be preparing for a new role, or is working in a role that involves handling food safely and supporting an individual with their nutrition and hydration needs.
You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance-learning materials. The learner must live in England and be over 19 years of age.
How is the course delivered?
Candidates work through the course materials for the programme at times convenient to them, so there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification. The learning materials contain the knowledge needed to meet the assessment requirements of the course and activities to allow candidates to practice their skills and test their learning. Assessments are based on a combination of knowledge and skills learned on the programme and work-based activities and experience.
This course is available online or paper based. Learners should complete the course within 12 weeks.
The course consists of two modules and will cover the following areas:
- Principles of food safety when providing food and drink for individuals
- Meet food safety requirements when providing food and drink for individuals
- Support individuals to eat and drink
- Contribute to promoting nutrition and hydration
Other Level 2 or 3 Health and Social Care qualifications such as Understanding Nutrition and Health or Early Years Educator qualifications depending on your chosen career path.
