Course description:

The aim of this course is to give learners the knowledge and understanding of their legal responsibility to safeguard and protect the welfare of children and learners. The course is aimed at any member of staff, parent, governor, volunteer or visitor that works with, or has access to, children and learners. As per Ofsted guidance, the term ‘children and learners’ cover all children, young people and vulnerable adults accessing a childcare or education setting.

Who is the course suitable for?

This qualification is aimed at anyone who wishes to develop knowledge and understanding of Safeguarding in Education and Childcare Settings. Anyone who currently works in the education and health and social care sectors would also benefit from the course, as well as anyone with a personal need for or interest in developing a more understanding of Safeguarding in Education This qualification is suitable for learners aged 19 and above.

Entry requirements:

You do not need to have any formal qualifications in order to follow this course, but you will need to demonstrate commitment and motivation to work through the specially prepared distance-learning materials and resources.

How is the course delivered?

Learners work through the course materials for the programme through distance learning, therefore, there is no need to attend the college to gain the qualification.

Course content:

The content of this qualification include:

Unit 01 Understand safeguarding and protection in education and childcare settings

The aim of this unit is to introduce learners to safeguarding and protection in education and childcare settings. The unit covers legislation, policies and procedures and how to raise concerns around safeguarding.

Unit 02 Understand the role of the education and childcare practitioner in safeguarding children and learners

The aim of this unit is to provide the knowledge and understanding of the roles and responsibilities that education and childcare practitioners have in safeguarding children and learners.

Progression opportunities:

Successful completion of this course will award you with a qualification in its own right. It will however also provide a sound preparation for further study and access to a range of vocational qualifications including Level 2 Support work in Schools and colleges, Supporting Teaching & Learning, The Learning Support Assistant, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), Caring for Children & Young People and Level 3 courses in Children & Young People, Supporting Teaching & Learning, Award in Education.
